Big port engine info

Post by BigPorter_LAPSED »

Hi, this is my first posting on this forum, so hello all.
I need a little advice on engine things to start with, although I'm sure I'll need more help in the future.
The 2 urgent jobs are,
1 valves, springs and guides
2 Tappets and the guides in which they bob up and down

The model appears to be a 1924 B3 or B4 or a mixture of both!!
Any help with the 2 areas of concern will be most helpful

I would have put a picture on this post, but as with most forums one needs to have a deep and thorough knowledge of systems to be able to do this, or am I being thick?, probably
Don't be afraid to offer any advice at all, as it all helps to make up a picture of what I want to achieve

Big port advice

Post by BigPorter_LAPSED »

Hi All, this is my first post on this forum and I hope it's as helpful as the other forums I use.
Last year I managed to get hold of a long term dream – A 1924 big port
All seems fine, particularly with the cycle parts, although I do need a few pointers/ bits of advice
1/ Valves, spring and guides. What are the options? Who can do the work?
2/ Cam followers and their guides. What are the options? Who can do the work?
3/ I want to change to well-based rims and tyres as the beaded edge tyres and rims are in need of replacement and I want to run lower pressures that needed with BE tyres. . What are the options? Who can do the work?
I must say that I was delighted with the performance of the little beast, she flies.
I feel sure that there will be more questions in the future, but this is quite enough to be going on with.
Glenn.

Hello Glenn, I suspect the pre-war E group would be a place to look for extra help, however there are forum members here with pre-war knowledge.

As these posts was merged by a Moderator it might have now been ignored as perhaps blocked???. So this post is to bump it up the list

Alf, thanks for the advice. I'm afraid I cannot find the 'E group' that you refer to. Is there any chance that you could let me know the link the group, as I've looked through the sections on this forum, but can't seem to find it.
Thanks, Glenn
