AJS 2nd gear - Pre war

I'm just in the process of reverse engineering a 2nd gear set for a pre-war AJS 3 speed gearbox.
This is the type from 1921(ish) to 1928 with a square section mainshaft. (The set on ebay are for a newer gearbox, and he doesn't have the type i need)
To make it viable, i might need to have several sets made, so, Would anyone on here be interested in a set?
Should be getting a rough idea of costs in a day or two.
Phil

Phil, I would be interested in replacing/or having a spare set of 2nd gears, depending on the price of course. Any idea of a ball-park figure? I would need some idea before committing.

Hi Glenn
My original post was maybe a bit confusing as Phil isn't on this Forum. I just reposted his message (from another old bike site) in case of any interest.
You'd need to call him on the contact number given in my earlier post:
07974 654272.

What I can make out the 2nd gear being reproduced is of 20T is already available. It's the 21T second gear that is unobtainable. But I have not been following the topic too closely.

Re: New 2nd gear set for 1920's AJS gearbox
To make things easier on Spriddler, i've managed to register!
The gears i'm having made, are 21 tooth to suit 3 speed boxes with a 0.750 SQUARE mainshaft. This is the type used in my '27 model D, and maybe earlier. (Later ones have a splined mainshaft)
I've now got costs back from the gear cutter, and we're looking at £290 inc UK postage for the pair of gears. For this you get the keyed gear, and the sliding gear with dogs on both sides.
The gears are being made from EN36, hardened, and then final machined to size.
To ensure we've got the spec right, I'll be working closely with the machineshop to trial fit the first set in my gearbox and adjust my drawings & CAD models, to suit, so then the rest of the batch should be spot on!
I'm really looking for 10 firm orders before metal is cut to make it viable, after which delivery will be approx 6 weeks.
If anyone is interested and wants to discuss more, either p.m. me, or give me a call on 07974 654272
Cheers
Phil

Note: Phil is a guest member and although he can receive a p.m. or e-mail sent from this site he will not be able to reply to it. Therefore anyone who wishes to contact him will need to provide their normal e-mail address on the p.m.Lincoln_imp wrote:If anyone is interested and wants to discuss more, either p.m. me, or give me a call on 07974 654272
