Burman Gear and Shaft but what from?
Rummaging in the shed today I came across the gear and shaft in the photos below, the gear has Burman stamped on it and the number 23, I am guessing that it is early (I would have expected to see engagement dogs protruding from the gear) and that it is bike related (it was with other bike bits), it may not be, over to the collective what is it from?

Photo of Burman box fitted to my Panther 250 1936, the box is a HPB 4 speed, the dogs on the shaft are visible. AJS Model 12 had same box as a few Ariel models.

Dont you just love a grease filled box when it's time to strip it?
It clings to an army blanket better than anything else known to man and won't leave the shiniest of shovels at any speed

Is that one spindle Steve or a staircase full?

A spindle a day keeps madness at bay - but I fear it may be too late to worry about that

Thanks Colin
I thought it would be earlier than the Type H, looks quite primitive.

You're very welcome Duncan.
It does look primitive but actually works quite well as long as you don't rush it.
