AJS 1940 Model 2

Post by 190model2 »

Hi All,

I have a 1940 AJS Model 2. I aquired a few years ago whilst in Italy.
Does anyone have any information on this model? Anyone have one? seen one? heard of one? It is described in the catalogue as a sports version of the 1939 Model.
Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Jim.

According to information I have, which is sparse and not infallible, the Model 2 was manufactured form 1933 - 1940, and apart from the obvious is 982CC, with a bore and stroke of 85.5. There is no mention of a sports model

Hi Jim,
You probably have restored your 40/2 AJS already. Here is a link to a nicely restored AJS v-twin.

Rgds,
Jari

AJS 1940 Model 2

actualy a model 2 v twin combination was introduced in 1925. You will see Wolverhampton model numbers stated, prefixed with the year code letter. e.g. for 1925 it was the E2, 1926 it became the G2, 1927 H2, this continued untill the Plumsted v twins arrived. Although engine numbers were prefixed with the year code, being the last 2 digits of the year. Plumsted machines are only refered to model 2. Not for example 33/2. So its understandable that Biscuit went for 1933
as the model 2 introductory year. For 1940 there was also the export model 2A.
I only have details of a couple of 1940 model 2A's on the prewar data base. Engine & frame numbers would be most welcome from any prewar machine owners. No personal details required. The data base is not for publication, due to data protection law. It is held only by the Dating officer and myself as Prewar officer, You can e mail numbers to me at prewar@jampot.com
