I'm having troble with the Burman HP gearbox fitted to my 1936 Model 16 AJS - re-build covered in the March 2008 Jampot. It jumps out of gear usually second to third. The notches/teeth on the pawl/ratchet are in first class order and the pawl plate has been re-bushed so there's no slop.
I suspect that the quadrant plate operated by the bell crank might be at fault OR the spring retaining the compression on the quadrant has lost its muscle.
All the gear dogs are in good order too so before removing the box for yet more investigation, I thought I'd present the problem to my more knowledgeable members.
Any advice would be welcomed and reports as to the effectiveness of any advice would be posted on the Forum.

The Pre-war specialist you will find listed on the home page is a better source for info on these.
I am no expert on these but have heard that weak detent springs can cause this. If you don't get better advice, replace all the springs.
Cheers, Don.

Thanks, Don
There's only one spring in this box and it's the item mentioned in the topic.
I'll try Rob Harknett and see if he has any suggestions.
