Engine Oil

Post by RogerJT »

I've recently bought a 1935 Matchless F4. I need to change the oil. Would Castrol XL 20w-50 or Castrol Classic XXL 40 be appropriate?

Sorry if I appear to have touched a nerve, but I do need to know the answer to the question! I'm new to classic motorcycle ownership and have bought the bike as a new collector. Is there a problem?

Roger, Best not refer to yourself as a "collector", be an enthusiast or a user of old bikes, and use simple monograde oil, SAE 40(50 if you thrash it in summer) but you would never do that, and Morris's is not a bad starting point.
Now, I'll hide for a while!

Use Castrol 40 or 50. Multigrades are for plain bearing engines.

tis easy Wilco, right click on smiley, open properties, highlight and copy, paste and save in a file somewhere, then insert it when you need it same as for inserting images, there may be an easier way but thats how I do it.

Do a forum search on oil RogerJT. it take you a week to read, and you still won't find a definative answer.

loads of bigoted biased ones from me though

Nice bike though,
