1927 AJS replacement valves

Post by g80csp11 »

Can anyone help locate replacement valves for my 1927 AJS H4 350cc SV. need to replace valve guides as well , but assume that i'll have to get those manufactured
I have already posted a request on pre war group , but thought best to ask as many people as possible.

Cheers

Not much chance of that.

I had one of these aeons ago and found some similar size valves to turn down the heads to suit.
the advantage of this is that even if the stem size is different you can sort that on the new valve guides; I have some memory of modifying Norton 16H guides, cast iron, nice and easy to turn.

The buggery bit of the job is if you have to cut slots in the stems for the collet.

Thanks itma, I guess thats what I was thinking already . looks like that already may have been done as the inlet valve stem is 0.283" and exhaust 0.267" . parts book suggests that both should be the same valve but really looking for confirmation what is standard size should be . I'm sure others must have also done a similar modification
