Heart of England Notes January 2008

Post by lawrence »

Happy New Year from Heart of England, can 2008 be better than 2007? We finished the year with a fascinating talk from Barry about his flight from California to Bedford in a small plane. In ‘Boy’s Own’ style Barry kept us enthralled with the story of his brush with catastrophe as the plane’s systems started to fail at -18degrees over Iceland. With one leap he was free! Thank goodness, otherwise we would have missed a ripping yarn. An excellent evening with some remarkable photos to illustrate the fantastic adventure. Christmas meal #1 took place at Norton. The usual quantity of food and drink was consumed so the designated drivers, Susi and Lyn were much appreciated. It was nice to see Vicki, our youngest member, there. She gave us an update on her studies. Conversation flowed and before we knew it the day was gone. Grumpiness surfaced momentarily as pie descriptions and roast potato cooking methods were debated but mention of loon trousers soon restored the GOMs to a happy state. Bob, Conway, Chris and Lawrence dressed up as elves and danced for our amusement. Bob and Conway were awarded 10.10 for style. Regarding the others, everyone agreed that, even if they weren’t very good dancers, they had jolly nice personalities and that is just as important as being a good dancing elf. ‘John’s Great Maintenance Debate’ drew a good crowd including Barry Croxford who we haven’t seen for a while. Louise M was the only girl present and managed to look interested most of the time and beautiful all of the time. John was never flummoxed despite some unusual questions being fired at him. Well done John for a very interesting evening, we certainly learned many new things, not all regarding bikes! The latter part of the evening was taken up making plans for summer events. The section has a fledgling website Heart of England website If you have some pictures of the members and their bikes or ideas please let us have them for inclusion. All suggestions gratefully received. Coming up: ‘Bits in a bag’ on 10th January and one of our most eagerly anticipated events ‘Famous Bob’s Music Quiz’ on the 24th January. Be there and make 2008 your best year yet!

Grumpiness surfaced momentarily

Don't forget to vote for Heart of England's 'Mr Grumpy' for next month's notes;

1. Lawrence 'I'm the last to be grumpy!'
2. Conway 'Grumpy, Me?'
3. John B. 'only with Tiger Cubs!'
4. Chris 'Grincheaux, Moi?'
