Obituary John Holder

Post by John Holder »

Sadly my Dad John Holder died on 12th April 2016. He was a very successful road racer during the 1950's and 1960's, especially in long distance races competing in the Manx GP, Thruxton 500 mile which he won with Tony Godfrey as the other rider, North West 200, he was part of the 4 rider team that successfully broke the 24 hour endurance record to name just a few of his achievements. He competed on many different makes of motorcycle including Matchless G45, G50, Norton, Triumph, BMW was the bike used in the 24 hour. Dad went on to successfully compete in many different forms of bike events including Scrambles, Grass Track, Hill Climb, Speedway and was a motorcyclist throughout his whole life. He returned to road racing in the 1970's, 1980's onwards on the classic racing circuit both at home and abroad.
Dad has 3 daughters Caroline, Marianne and Ruth. Caroline and Ruth both ride motorcycles which really pleased him as it meant a Norton, Royal Enfield and Triumph were in the family. Grandson James proudly owns a Matchless which he was restoring under Dads guidance. Grandson Connor competes at scrambles so the legacy to motorcycles is carrying on within the Holder family.
Dads funeral will be on Wednesday 27th April 2016, 12.30 at Medway Crematorium. The cortege will be travelling from West Kingsdown, Sevenoaks, Kent. leaving there around 11am. Caroline, Ruth and James will be escorting Dad with their motorcycles and would really appreciate it if any other motorcycles could join them on his final journey.
Please message me -Caroline Holder for any further details.
