Here is my switch. I can't check the Amp meter settings as it does not work, it is one of many jobs on the list.

Yours is the same as mine then. Normal ignition should be clockwise so the 'I' lines up with the little indent in the shell if you can still see it and emergency is anticlockwise so the 'E' then lines up with the indent.

My light switch is on the left (near side) and ignition on the right (same as Janet's). I turn my ignition clockwise for ignition and anti-clockwise for emergency. It has always been this way, although I haven't owned it from new.
