Swiss government decides not to go ahead
The Swiss authorities have reassured FEMA that the proposed strict maximum speed limit of 80km/h for motorcycles will not be implemented. This is the positive outcome of a meeting held last week between FEMA and a government's official in Geneva.
Recently, major German motorcycle magazines published the worrying news that Switzerland was planning to implement this very strict speed limit for motorcycles on the grounds that it would help to improve road safety for these vehicles.
FEMA was present in Geneva last week to represent riders at United Nations' meetings related to motorcycles, and took this opportunity to meet with a representative of the Swiss government. During that meeting, FEMA put forward its arguments against this measure and expressed real concerns about such a discriminatory rule being envisaged. The government's official acknowledged these concerns and asserted that it was not the intention to introduce this 80km/h limit in the country. This measure, proposed by the national road safety institute, was indeed considered by the Swiss authorities but it was decided to drop it.
