18 and 19 is a bit more than 16 teeth so may make a noticeable difference. As have said, most likely you will pick up the later and easy to find spacer. Only the correct one should be used, chains will not line up. May result in other problems also

well What I will do with the spacer is machine one in bright steel on the lathe and case harden it (which may well still be too soft but will hold out enough until i find one) - and ill get the bits from the club too

You will still need the dimensions to make one, or perhaps machine what you found. You may had found correct parts via the prewar e group.

I think finding the correct pieces may be tricky.. on ebay at the weekend I bid on something that looked suitable and it went to £103 for a motley assortment of bits and pieces which might not have been correct... I think the splined female piece that sits on the crank spline that buts up to the sprocket will prove to be tricky to find ...

Should be plenty about Mike, used on pre and post war singles, correct spacer I would have thought most difficult as that was different to post war.. Have you asked in wants adds who may have any of the bits?

well Im fairly certain i have a complete and functional primary drive with either a 17 18 or 19 sprocket to work from - Next bit is clutch am feeling lucky ...?
