1927 H4 piston needed

Post by 1600gtbmw »

Hi, has anybody got a contact for the supply of new pistons for a 1927 H4 deluxe?
Just taken mine out and its had a few nip ups (looks like its been running very hot)

Only bought the bike recently so first time appart for decoke and to see why it was losing power, found the bad piston and marks in the barell where the gudgeon pin had been rubbing prevoiusly.
Looks like it will need sleeving and a new piston, any help and advice on hot running appreciated.
Cheers

I do not think anyone will have a stock of pistons for a 90+ year old bike they may sell. You will probably need to discover one near enough to machine to fit. Did you know about how to ride such an old bike, eg pumping the oil in when riding. Also need to remember 1927 fuel was a much lower rating than todays 95 octain. You could join the prewar e group, perhaps discover from owners how they overcome the piston problem.

Hi Bob, yes aware of how to ride the old bike, problem was inherited from previous owner / owner and unkown until i striped it to check.
Think it,s also got the wrong jet in the carb as it is very weak (adding to overheating)
Not sure how to join the prewar section other than being in this section, can you advise where to look please?

Cheers

I do have a couple of new H4 350 SV pistons , std and +20 when I had them made 5 years ago everyone said there was no demand and im also getting Big end assembles manufactured
I need the std for my rebuild and could sell the +20 , i'm afraid they are not cheap
PM me and we can perhaps sort something out

Hi g80csp11, seems my profile is saying 'not permitted' to send PM's ?. I am interested in the piston, i have managed to source a new one (pattern not original for £100 +p/p, not bought it yet however) is yours a similar price or more and what would the difference be in design?

If you have located a piston for 100 + VAT , I'd buy it as mine cost me more than that
once you have bought it post a link to where it came from so that others can source from then as well
