Matchless Badge
I bought this Left hand toolbox, I think it's a '56', but I've never seen this Matchless badge before. It's bolted on, seems original and under the clear perspex centre is a honeycomb pattern. Anyone know anything about it ?

I don't think it's the Mobylette badge. Cheers. Bruce.

Re: Matchless Badge
Thanks for your thoughts, I've checked out Moto Guzzi they all seem to be full eagles, and Mobylette are different. I don't think it's homemade and haven't found any other mopeds or bike badges it could be!
I am going to refurbish the toolbox to go on my AJS 18, so will be taking the badge off. A mate sent it over from South Australia, so it has little rust and no battery corrosion. It looks like it is original paint and the badge was bolted on, with square nuts, many years ago, it looks original. It is a plain box, no fluting, which I think was only produced for '56', I've looked through Roy Bacon's, TPWM, and haven't seen anything either, but maybe it's an export only?
I don't want to chuck it away if it has any merit, would a badge have a part stamp on the back!
but it's no use to me. The perspex has that sort of BSA badge look about it!

Re: Matchless Badge
This honey comb has been bugging me. Are you sure this is not a reflector. There were reflectors chrome rings etc. sold really as decorations, if that's the word to use. I had a pair of Rockets with text Rocket, bolted on leg shields years ago. Perhaps someone today finding them may think Rocket made the leg shields.

Rob, you could be close to the truth, it's very odd and bugging me too, I'll take it off and see if there's any clues on the other side, and see what the paint underneath is like.

Can't find a picture to match it, but my thoughts are it looks like car bonnet badge. Morris I first thought but nothing like it I could find!
