600 Twin Carburetter Adapter

Post by ajsph »

I have a set of twin carburetter adaptors, but I can`t see how the ring is sealing in the buttom of the recess, any help appreciated

Hi Poul

Does the 'O' ring in it's housing not seal against the adaptor and then the carb 'O' ring seal against the adaptor 'O' ring housing?

Difficult to be sure of dimensions from the photo

No the o ring can´t seal in the buttom, it is leaking around the holes for the allen bolts

Hi Poul

Could you fit a fibre gasket in addition to the 'O' ring? Would it be clamped between the 'O' ring holder and the adaptor when the carb is torqued up?

Regards Mick

Edited for another thought:

Is the 'O' ring supposed to seal against a carb insulator and the adaptor to seal against the other side of the 'O' ring holder via a fibre gasket?

no, the o ring housing has the same thickness as the recess in the flange.

Hi

I think it was designed to be used in conjunction with an insulator - why have two 'O' ring seals, (the adaptor and the carb), adjacent?

If the adaptor recess and housing are the same depth then inserting a gasket will provide the 'clamp up'

when the o ring housing is too high, it will bend the carburetter flange. I am sure it is original factory parts

Hi

The carb flange will be against the insulator, the fibre gasket only needs to be a few thou thick.

I think you need to consider adding a couple of insulators / spacers:
