Re: Gearbox, layshaft bush, driveside
Gents,
Maybe I am the most recent lightweight sufferer to need the subject bearing. Here are a few facts from my experience with Simply Bearings: I ordered my RNU205 for £43 inc p&p it arrived promptly. This SKF made in Germany bearing contains no "Kunstoff" and in particular the roller cage is ferrous based metal (magnet check). The dimensions are correct and it fits. The only other stamps are W12R on the outer race.
I cannot see any specific technical reasons why this item is not fit for purpose.

The bearing is correct if it has the metal cage but where did the £43 inc V.A.T come from? as there is no bearing at that price on their site now, unless they have bumped up the price recently..

I can't really comment on that and because I'm in Germany the next 3 weeks I don't have the invoice to hand. I'll have a look on SB's site and follow this up but it could be 3 weeks.

Well I've looked at my paypal account and I paid £43,32 on 16th Jan. I can only suggest you mention my price and ask for a deal, it is the very same bearing.

I'm afraid you L/W owners are going to have to struggle on your own. For the last 2 days I've been trying to resolve their inability to quote for the correct bearing and they have simply closed the enquiry case as resolved! It clearly wasn't as I'd not heard back and I've been trying to get through on the landline as well to no avail.
I'm not bothering with them if that's the best service they can provide.

Finally I heard back from Simply Bearings, SKF were not available in any quantity (ie only 1 available) however other branded ones were so we've ordered a batch.

Well the quotation did say 32mm and not 31.5mm as well as stating steel cage. If they come in wrong I'll have wasted 1hr of my life yesterday on the phone talking them through our requirements!
