1937 AJS 250

Post by NORMAN NIPPY »

First time I have tried the bike after getting the clutch to work, the first 3 gears work fine but the fourth gear is a neutral gear with no drive this was my first time out with the bike,
Thanks

Should be 4 speed. Sounds like its not engaging. What have you done to the gearbox? These boxes are tempermental. They may find a neutral, so you need to go up 2 and down 1. If in say 3rd it may go down to 1st etc. You could try what the book suggest's, put an egg cup full of oil in it. It would still need to run a few miles to get it warmed up. It should behave a little better when warmed up.

After over 1 year of owner ship, and due to a stroke and unable to move the gear lever, today was my first run.
First the clutch plates were too thick and not clearing the clutch for a gear change.
The bike went well until fourth gear, sometime it would go in but most of the time just a non driving gear.
Some months ago some grease and an egg cup full of oil was put in
Thank you for thoughts
