Engine valve woes
Hi all,
I am trying to assemble a table of valve and valve guide data used on the shortstroke G80CS. I need your help to fill in the blanks!
1956 INL 013988 (Alpha V55, Tranco 4350-I) Head Ø 1-11/16" (1.6875") Stem Ø 0.3730" Length 4.060" Guide 017019 (Alpha G425, Tranco G6436)
EXH 013989 (Alpha V56, Tranco 4350-E) Head Ø 1-11/16" (1.6875") Stem Ø 0.3730" Length 4.060" Guide 022208 (Alpha G485, Tranco G6496)
1957/58 INL 023368 (Alpha ??, Tranco ????) Head Ø 1-7/8" (1.875") Stem Ø 0.3730" Length ?? Guide 017019 (Alpha G425, Tranco G6436)
EXH 023369 (Alpha ??, Tranco 4350-E core ) Head Ø 1-11/16" (1.6875") Stem Ø 0.3730" Length ?? Guide 023370 (Tranco G6497)
1959 INL 024518 (Alpha ??, Tranco 4509) Head Ø ?? Stem Ø ?? Length ?? Guide 024359 (Tranco G6516)
EXH 023369 (Alpha ??, Tranco 4350-E core) Head Ø 1-11/16" (1.6875") Stem Ø 0.3725" Length ?? Guide 024519 (Alpha G506, Tranco G6517)
1960-67 INL 026028 (Alpha V208, Tranco 4513) Head Ø 1-3/4" (1.75") Stem Ø 0.312" Length 4.185" Guide 026030 (Alpha G515, Tranco G6526)
EXH 026029 (Alpha V209, Tranco 4514) Head Ø 1-9/16" (1.565") Stem Ø 0.3725" Length 4.150" Guide 024519 (Alpha G506, Tranco G6517)
All Alpha Vxxx and Gxxx codes are successions of corresponding Hepolite codes.
I am surprised by all these variations over the years. Obviosly the factory carried out a continuous development, no doubt with input from Cooper Motors.
Further info and corrections received with thanks.

Re: Engine valve woes
Thank you Rob. Unfortunately the data provided do not cover the G80CS shortstroke models.
I looked up G & S valves - no help there either.
Does someone own a copy of
TRANCO VALVES GUIDES SPRINGS CATALOGUE NUMBER 27
?
I believe Tranco was a supplier to the factory.

Re: Engine valve woes
I do have a Tranco catalogue somewhere, don't know what issue number. I does cover 40's to 60's .mdt-son wrote:Thank you Rob. Unfortunately the data provided do not cover the G80CS shortstroke models.

I only scanned a few pages of it and archived it here. http://archives.jampot.dk/technical/Gen ... etails.pdf

Re: Engine valve woes
Rob,
Sounds like you have the correct edition. If you could retrieve it and scan or photograph all postwar content related to marques, that would be really helpful.
Thanks in anticipation!
Meanwhile, I hope Ken de Groome and others will chime in.
Cheers,
Knut

Re: Engine valve woes
Thanks DickV. Your measurement confirms my table entry for 1960-67. If you have a trace to supplier code for the exhaust valve, please let me know.
The catalogue entry with Alpha Bearings is faulty.
Cheers,
Knut

Re: Engine valve woes
Thanks Rob. Have you looked inside? The last models presented are for the 1950 season, thus too old for my enquiry.
I am still looking for issue 27 of their catalogue (1969 edition).

Re: Engine valve woes
Yes Knut, it is the 1950 edition and goes back to the 1920's. I thought you were compiling a list covering all era's. I know I have more books somewhere in crates. My ill health means I cannot lift the crates. I would even get breathless sorting through a crate of literature.
