Hi

I've been mulling this one over for a while now and I can't help but keep coming back to the fact the crank has been re-built just prior to identifying this issue.

Over 1/8" of end float on the crank is very large and to my knowledge unheard of, therefore I'd be confirming the crank dimensions and if they are good, looking for distortion to the cases.

As Steve hinted above, shimming the crank by 1/8" will put the oil pump gearing out of alignment and introduce wear.

It is certainly strange that a crank should have 'narrowed' by such an amount and worthy of further investigation. I would doubt it is a fault of that magnitude with the pin as the big end of the conrod would bind between the flywheels . Ive now reassembled the 1955 350 engine I'm working on so can't help with any measurements unfortunately.
