My memory probably at fault, but I thought that housing/carrier for the thin walled bushes (have a pair behind the keyboard in front of me) were steel? Apparently, they can be removed as well in error. There were pattern bushes many years ago which had very thick walls and could only be used if the carrier was missing.

The thin wall ones I have are damaged at the inner edge from their removal. The only reason I took them out was that I had the frame re-stoved and forgot to blank off the bushes! As they were about 25 years old (although not causing a problem) I decided to replace them. Nowadays I would've just reamed the stoving out!

Hi Andy51

Can you send me your article too as I'm refurbishing the swinging arm on my 1953 G80S

Hi Neil,

It's now in the tech articles area, if you scroll up a couple of comments to Eamonn's link you find it there

Stoving (powder coating) with oilite bushes in situ is not working well. Bushes will dry out, and coating will be ruined by oil contamination. Thus, bushes have to be removed and refitted / replaced if stoving is planned.
This topic has been extensively discussed in the e-Group lately.

Knut

Cheers, I was still in my early 30's at the time. Another 30 years on, I know better but a good warning for others.
