Hi all ordered fork parts on club and the chap phoned me because he said for 1955 the stanchion size was 1 & 1/8 and I had ordered parts for 1 1/4
Am a going mad ? I’m sure 54 was the last year with the smaller stanchions
In the end I told him that stanchions were def 1 & 1/4 and he said the yokes must have been changed at some point

You are correct Andy, 1955 model year was the first to use 1 1/4 stanchions. 1955 is a “one year only” with different seals and top bushes, top nuts and the domes to finish it all off. All are shown in the 1955 spares list.

Don't forget the special washers underneath the top nuts which are what the domes push onto.

55 was a one off year for the forks without a doubt, Special hex top nuts for 1-1/4" stanchions, special elliptical washer and the lovely domed caps for them! Good job I had them made specially.

I didn't know the '55 front forks had domes on the cap nuts, I looked at the diagram in a parts list to see what you meant...
A friend's '55 G9 is parked at mine and I thought the forks I used on my 350 were '55 (1 1/4" with hex cap nuts) ... Not a dome in sight
