All fair points and I don't disagree at all, Clive.
I was looking at it more from the practical angle. It's fine if Phil has or knows of a facility on Guernsey to separate the flywheels and press out the drive axle and crank pin and reassemble to around 200*ft.lb. for the nuts, plus truing up the flywheels alignment to max 2 thou.
The flywheel assembly is a heavy lump needing a substantial 'crate' if it has to be sent to the mainland (plus the risk of it getting lost).
All things considered I'd try re-using the axle as it's a considerable specialist job and costly to replace it when it's only a couple of hours and at very little cost, if any, to reassemble the primary drive and chaincase as it is.
Certainly if the cost is irrelevant and Phil can dismantle and rebuild the engine the solution is to send the assembly off to T&L and have them check and refurbish it.
* Just for info, although 200 ft.lb. is a bit less than this, Phil's in the building trade so he'll certainly have the scaffold pole.
