Spoke gauge question

Post by Chris2023 »

1952 AJS 18S

The Spares List has spokes listed as:
- FRONT wheel - 20 spokes 5 3/16 ins, 8 G by 10 G and 20 spokes 8 1/8 ins, 9 G by 11 G
- REAR wheel - 40 spokes 8 1/8 ins, 7 G by 9 G

Devon Rim has all spokes for front & rear as 8/10 G.

Are the 8/10 G spokes acceptable for my original hubs and rims?

Thanks for any help!

Details to read, only if you're interested in going down this "rabbit hole":

Ordered 2 kits that I believe are the correct sets for the mc:
AMC12-SSP 19" Premium Stainless Steel Spoke Set for AMC 7" Single Side Front Hub
AMC5-SSP 19" Premium Swage Butted Stainless Spoke Set for AMC 4.0" Wide Cotton Reel Rear Hub

I sent the Spares List information to them and they quickly replied, saying "Unfortunately as per the description in our listing you have not ordered according to your spares list. We do not and never have supplied 9/11g spokes or 7/9g spokes."

They seem to be very reasonably priced, compared to what I've found elsewhere, and since I'm already over what I'd planned to spend fixing this bike up, I don't want to shell out "custom order" fees. I know that the bike needs to be built properly, for safety's sake, and things like wheels, brakes and the like aren't where I should skimp to save money...
