Re the piston........On reflection I'm surprised that a '55 would have wire-wound piston as I think they were discontinued by the factory well before 1955.

Interesting Spriddler, here’s a pic of the piston as found when investigating loss of power earlier this year of my 1960 G3 that is standard bore size though well worn, exhaust valve not closing was the culprit. Have ordered a +0.020 piston and ring set from club shop and will be having barrel overbored soon.

I was very surprised to see it too!
