How many plates did you start with?
Model 16 for '54 would have a clutch centre for a four plate clutch.
Other models would have a centre for a five plate clutch.

Are the plain plates all the same thickness or do you have the earlier thick back plate?

Re: 54 16ms clutch plates
I thought, as Joker_Bones suggested, the 350 had a four plate clutch. I've run, and have just put back into service, a four plate CP clutch in my 500 with GB/B52 gearbox. Had to fiddle a bit with clutch rod length and consequently have two plain plates underneath the pressure plate as well as the thicker first plain plate. This is how it worked for me previously. It's what people do sometimes to keep things rolliing.
Is the machine new to you or was it running and working before dismantling the clutch? If the former, it can be useful to verify that what's there is actually what ought to be there. Perhaps that's why the PO had missed out a friction plate. Are all the friction plates and plain plates, as Duncan mentioned, the same thickness or do they vary?

Hi
All plates are the thicker ones, I have bought thinner plates and will try these.
Clutch slipped previously
