Hi everyone, this might sound like a silly question but what color was the M on the timing chain cover on the 46 500 Matchless ?, I have seen both red and black on many pictures. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is only a B&W drawing (although there is red on the page) but it looks black in the 1947 factory brochure here:
