Kickstart thread

Post by Expat »

Hello all, Further to the other shenanigans re my G3, maybe partly due to my fervent attempts to get it running, the folding part of the kickstart lever worked loose and fell off, luckily while I was stopped and folding it in. Domed nut and washers lay on the ground too and subsequent investigation showed that threads of both nut and lever were buggered. My thoughts that can be published here, what else can go wrong??
I was able after removing the lever, to file the knackered threads down to something resembling a circular diameter resembling 5/16 and break out the old work tooling to cut a half decent thread, found a nut that fits and on we go, kicking carefully.

Have others had this happen and what was their answer, short of obtaining a replacement lever ?

Years ago I set off for the NW section clubnight near Ormskirk on my newly rebuilt T110. Went to the bike later to find no kickstart folding top lever. Bumpstarted to get home. Next day the kids wanted to go to Chester Zoo. On the way the missus says 'Why are we going this way?' 'Oh just looking for something......' And found it by the side of the road!
I suppose if you're happy with the fit of the nut just locktight it and see how it lasts. On my model 20 I don't mind having the non folding type. It's out of the way of my leg and I never need to reach down to fold it out.

Does anybody know if the non folding kickstart G-43-2, listed on AMOC parts page, would fit my G3 with AMC gearbox?
Thanks
