Advance/Retard lever direction

Good afternoon all,

Just seeking confirmation that I’ve got this right! In relation to the position of the advance/ retard lever on my 1947 G3L. Having read previous threads am I correct in saying that FULLY ADVANCED is with cable under tension ( pulled in ) and RETARDED when cable slack ( lever released ). As I’m only familiar with the Auto A/R on my 1955 model this is un trod territory . Lever is on left of handlebars.

Under normal driving conditions I assume lever is returned to fully advanced ( or where best engine running conditions are found ).

You are correct lever pulled back for tight wire advance and pushed forward for slack wire retard. Had the cable entered at the other side the operation would have been reversed.

Thanks for clarification, always pays to check if unsure. I’m assuming I’m correct to run on full advanced when warmed up and normal running ( or adjusted to best running ).
