What kind of wire ?? Color??

Post by Dsrdave »

Hi and a happy holiday season to all
The wiring was missing from my’25 E1 when I got it
I’m assuming AJS would have been using a cloth covered wire at that time ? I found a wiring diagram for the bike but no colors were called out. Did AJS use different colors of wire ? If so, any insight as to what colors for what ? Or did they just use all black ?
Again, thanks for any help. Dave

The diagram should have wire colours but its not always easy to read.

This is the wiring diagram from my Sunbeam book, it's for a 3 brush dynamo which would be in your mag/dyno.
It is possible to rewire the dynamo to a 2 brush configuration to be used without the shunt resistor in the headlamp and run on a modern regulator.
hope this helps a bit.

Thx, that helps. And yes, Peter de kremer will be doing the magdyno for me and he recommends converting to the two brush setup
