Kickstart shaft '64 AMC box

Post by Red Gauntlet »

Discovered that the kickstart shafts are different, the 'new' one has the spring hole in a different place than the old one, I am assuming that the 'new' one is the earlier type? Will the Norton 06.6169 shaft will replace the old one?

I'm not quite sure what you are asking...
Here are a couple of pics of the shafts fitted to the earlier (M) and later (MA) type boxes, if it helps.

The later box is the one with the gasket fitted. The boss the spring is on in the case is reduced, the return spring is longer.

Thanks for the pictures, illustrates the issue nicely, I did not know there are two flavours of bulkhead plates so I learned something today. I managed to get a new shaft that has both holes in so one size fits all which is handy.
