7" single sided front brake chrome backplate cover.

From a previous thread and personal observation, I found out that my chrome brake cover is secured by the boss for the actuating arm being peened over. My question is , how difficult is it to remove the chrome cover without wrecking the boss. I want to remove the cover for re chroming. Has anyone done this successfully without causing damage?
