Model 14
Hi,I'm probably old enough to know better but I'm the brand new owner of a 1959 AJS model 14, I've had it for a week waiting for an MOT appointment, I've got it insured but no tax as yet.
The MOT is tomorrow (Monday) at one o'clock, I've had the bike running a few times, it sometimes starts first kick but other times is is very difficult to start. Today I decided to take it for a short run on a quiet road, it started eventually but when I got onto the road the only way I could get it to accelerate was by pulling the 'air control lever' towards me, it then ran ok. Then when I got back home after about half a mile it refused to restart! Any suggestions would be very very welcome.
Thankyou in advance.
Russell Barr.

On that lever is a screw or a nut.
pull the lever towrds you, and do the nut or screw up tight.
THEN LEAVE IT ALONE!!!
you should not need a choke at all, least of all in this weather.
Before you start tomorrow, either clean the plug or change it, I bet its black wet and sooty?

Hi Merlin, thankyou very much for your very quick reply, as I said in my first post I should be old enough to know better! The reason I bought the bike was because I passed my bike test on the same model in 1963 so that will give you an indication as to how old I am.
So the choke is on when the lever is away from me? I stupidly thought that it worked the other way around, like the old cars, pull the choke to start and then push it back in gradually as the car warms up, I've got a lot to learn havn'tI?
