Oil for Matchless G2

Can i just buy 1 can of SAE 50 oil and use it for engine and gear box ?
Or sould i buy SAE 50 for gear box and SAE 40 for engine?
And will it just say SAE 40 or 50 on the can or something / 40 or50

I use Halfords Classic Oil 20w50 in engine and gearbox,seems to run okay.

Hi Dave, I would put sae 50 in engine and gearbox. Yes it will say 50 on the can. I would buy a manual or follow the link to Christian's archives and download it . Check all the jets and settings, and if you still can't get it to run right ( don't forget to check timing, tappets, and sparkplug) buy a brand new monobloc and it'll run like a dream! Also join your local section and ask for help. Cheers David.

I'd also say go for the SAE50 and make sure that the gearbox is kept full, it's the round one isn't it and the gears are mostly at the top.
