Sorry Guys, this is a bit lazy asking a question before a thorough investigation.
I have just bought a brand new carb which I fitted last night, I noticed the petrol comes out of the small holes in the mouth of the carb before it comes out of the tickler, (in fact it doesn't ever come out of the tickler)
The bike starts and ticks over OK, is this normal?

Is this when you flood the carburettor?
On Amal type 76 and Monobloc carburettors, the small primary air hole is lower than the tickler, and only just above the correct fuel level, so that is where the petrol is going to appear first when the level is temporary raised, not at the tickler.Edited by - paul knapp on 27 Aug 2008 12:59:46 PM

Yes Paul, it is when flooding the carb prior to cold starting, is this OK then, or does it mean the fuel level is to high, if so how do you adjust it.

Ron, as long as the engine starts and settles down to a good steady 'tick over' and there is no fuel dripping after it's settled down OR when stopped, it should be all good!
Fuel level has no provision for adjustment, though it can be done.

For what it's worth Ron...and according to my original Owner's Handbook,
"If the fuel around the carburettor mouth ignites upon starting, open the throttle wide. This will suck the flames into the engine and extinguish the fire".
So that's all right then.

Just stripped the carb down and can't find anything wrong, as it runs OK, I won't worry about it and just remember Spriddler's tip.
