Drying the inside of petrol tank ?

Post by davehutch »

I am in the process of sealing my petrol tank on my G2 with this kit http://www.frost.co.uk/item_Detail.asp? ... ostSubcat=
I am at the last stage where the tank needs to be bone dry to put the sealer in. I have had the tank standing for two days but it still seems damp inside. Any suggestions on how to help dry it out?

Cheers Dave

I have brought it in out of the garage and put it in the lounge behind the sofa. Hope she don’t find it! Hopefully this will help.

There are many additives in today's commercial pump 'Petrol' .
It could be residues.
Perhaps flushing out with a strong detergent and thorough rinsing? Maybe there's a risk of the inside rusting though, if not dried quickly - perhaps you'd be able to use SWMBO's hair dryer as she's not noticed the presence and smell of a petrol tank in the lounge?.
If it has been sealed before I read that acetone is the stuff to remove the old sealant and leave a clean surface.
Perhaps the sealant supplier can advise?

I have cleaned the tank with Marine Clean then used Metal Ready, It then says to flush with water and let dry before sealing with Fuel Tank Sealer. Which is the stage I am at now. She is still out so I am going to search for the air dryer!

Not just saying this to give you a laugh, but the air dryer lasted less than 2 minutes.

Dave, have you thought about the new hairdrier ok,so 96 hrs may be optimistic, but you could give it a good start perhaps What does it smell like? and are you sure your wife didn't notice it?

Maybe this should be in the joke posting; " Ere! My wifes got no nose!" (Straight Man replies) " So how does she s...." Ok, I'll get me coat, them Syston boys can cut up a bit rough you know, and he is a bit close by

Best is the hair dryer has a cut out when it gets to hot it’s all right now. She has come home and likes the old one better than the new one that I have brought I can’t take it back because I have somehow got tank sealer on it.
