Post by G15 Roy »

I have just purchased today a 1953 Model 20 last used in 1986 with just 26K miles on the clock. To my surprise is it fitted with alloy barrels. I have only ever seen one other bike with the same. So my question is they an AMC part or an after market part.

Look for unusual fitments for off-road. The works made special ISDT bikes with alloy barrels & other mods at that time. Cheers, Don.

I have seen alloy barrels on ebay but they weren't machine finished. Maybe somebody had a batch caste up?

Roy, Bob Jones of he Hampshire section has what I think is a 53 G9 with alloy barrels which picked up a highly commended at the Kimbolton Jampot, there is a picture of him on the bike in the section members gallery of the Hampshire website, sorry but I can't add more detail.

Alloy barrels were available for the G9/Model 20 many years ago, from Hamrax ,and possibly Russels. There are still a few around but I have never been fortunate enough to get a close look. I would like to know if they are sleeved with an Iron liner or produced using the Alfin process.

Interestingly on Amercan ebay at the moment there is a pair and in another ad there's a singleG9b one for sale. Coincidence?
