g3l compression

Post by SPRIDDLER »

Just sharing idle thoughts (I have a lot those these days)......

Since the pushrod clearances are initially adjusted so that they are 'free to turn' there will be perhaps 1 to 2 thou gap, so it isn't surprising that the gap disappears after a while of bedding down: there are 3 gaskets which could compress: Cylinder base gasket is probably irrelevant since its only fag paper thick to start with, but the copper head gasket could continue to crush a bit, and the 'card' rocker cover gaskets in my shed start off about 20 thou thick so it's conceivable that 1 or 2 thou pushrod clearance could easily disappear - especially if the head is re-tightened (although I've never been ars*d to do this after a top end rebuild).
A check of p/rod clearance after a couple of hundred miles should the trick.
