RAMAIR air filter for a 1961 G12 CSR

Post by CAB »

I have recently fitted a RAMAIR MR-004 sock type foam air filter to my G12 CSR. The internal diameter of the rubber mounting is 43mm and this fits neatly over the 389 carb inlet (long ram pipe removed) and doesn't need a jubilee clip. The filter fits through the hole in the trim plate (just touches the plate all the way around the circumference of the hole) and the end of the filter just clears the seat down tube. I have had a look at the plugs and it doesn't appear to have affected the mixture. As the filter is black foam it's not too obvious with the white writing facing down. The RAMAIR MR-003 would probably fit the 389 as well and would give slightly more clearance against the frame tube. To fit you need to unscrew the plate behind the carb, move it to one side and pass the filter through the hole and then fit the filter over the carb and screw the plate back on, a 2 minute job.
