gp1 with #7 slide?

Post by turfclubroad »

some of you may be wondering why I am on the forum a coue of times a day, not a member etc.

Well I did apply for a membership, its just not processed yet. I am active as I just bought a tcs which is still in the US and while reading up on things I just come accross a lot of things which I Want to learn. ore about and cant find the answers for. I do y to find them on this forum for instance before asking, but ease if any of my questions have been answered before, please direct me to the right thread.

anyway, I am rebuilding a GP1 for use on the typhoon, or just as a piece of a on my desk and I came accross a manual which specifies a number 7 slide (also for the 80cs if fitted with a gp1). Talking to people much more knowledgeable than me about tuning its a bit of a surprise to all of them as a number 4 is much more common. Now (and this probably makes it clear I have no clue), why would a tcs or a cs using a GP1 need a 7 cutaway while an 80cs with a onoblok uses a slide number 3 according to the same manual. But it makes even less sense if I hear that goldstars with GP1 carbs use slide 4.

Does this have to do with how the competition models would have been used, mostly full throttle? That applies to the Goldstars with GP1s as well though....

Is here an amal/matchless specialist who I could call?

thx

gp1 with #7 slide?

Dont worry about all the questions Wiebe.
Some comp bikes had airfilters fitted, so a bigger slide would be needed.
Did you not find Amal literature for the GP carb in the archives. I've not checked to see if its there. Perhaps you could also check parts list for the bike. They may mention the different slides required if air filters are fitted.
You really should start by getting the literature for your bike. You will then be in a better possition to get to know more about it and any changes that may had taken place.
If you do not find the GP literature let me know on prewar@jampot.com I can help even with post war machines. You will eventually also have access to the club helpliner.
I am sure the delay for you getting your membership pack is due the illness, computer problems etc that have caused a bit of back log to clear.
