Certanly sounds like a knackered coil. Might be worth converting to 12V at the same time if you need to replace the coil! It's very easy to do.
My Lightweights once sorted have all been very reliable - they are dead simple so look for the obvious.

I would suspect the coil, if some how the cooling oil leaks out (maybe by a damaged outer case) these are the symptoms you get because the coil will overheat and break down until its cool again. Get a good quality coil when you replace.

Getting her running
Changed the coil and it runs well now. Thanks all for your help!
Few little niggles to sort out;
Slipping out of 1st when under strain
oil in the timing cover/case (might be from last owner but could also be a leak?)
Choke needed even when hot
idle/tickover has been set but sometimes revs quite fast
revs dip when throttle right open
Other than those bits I'm pretty happy with it, it rides, handles and sounds really well, back brake is really good and could skid if I really wanted to, wish i could say the same about the (almost non existent) front brake!
