All right, then Ken, perhaps I could convince you to sell me one of your "10 a penny" heplex 9991 pistons for my second '46 engine if and when I get it together?

'49 G80 Piston

Sorry for delayed response Peter. Me and my boring history of Hepolite....I first found a NOS Hepolite 10197 +20 for my '48 G80 project as it was on standard bore. Turned out that after boring there was still a tiny ridge at the top so I put that one aside and went on the hunt for another bigger oversize one.

It took a while and finally another one showed up (ebay). This one was a NOS +60 and is now living and working well in my '48. I am on to my '49 G80S project now and the +20 I had left was perfectly suited to that cylinder, which was also on standard bore.

So, to answer question about availability....I don't know. I think there are still ones out there and they show up from time to time but you can't tell when.

I just saw this link a few days ago but have a feeling they aren't really Hepolite but rather newly made using that number. Could be JP Australian ones...

...and the reason for the change in piston hole position? I thought it was something to do with reducing piston slap. Could be wrong, probably am. ;)

Regards,
Lance

For all those interested, I have posted pictures of both pistons in the "New Pictures" directory of this
website . They are all up, but to see the numbers,
10197 and 9991 you will have to enlarge the two single (crown down) piston pictures.
And Peter, your piston is the one with the low pin and the bits of soot or black on it,

Regretfully I screwed up the uploading and got the
non flash picture of the 10197 and not the flash picture of the 9991.
I can still load it later.
