AJS 18 needs some wax

Post by cmarkley »

Picked this up over the weekend. It is a 1947 AJS 18. Purchased it from a family that bought it in 1948. Might have been used, they were not sure. It shows only 4,000 on the speedometer. It is froze tight, I think the handle bars look wrong, and the tool box looks like it was chromed. What other things do you see what look odd. Last winters project was a locked up G2, guess what I will be doing in the basement this year. Guess you found it easier to post a pic in the pictures section. The handle bars look an odd shap but may had been fitted for ther USA market as its thought you prefered Cow horn type bars, although they are not tippical cow horn type.
Is that grey part a rear lamp. Made from an old car wing lamp???

Rob, I wondered if the handles were an american thing, we like a place to hang our rope when were rustling cattle. The grey part is the light, and I thought it looked like it belonged, but maybe not. I post a pic in the pic section of it. I'm trying to get pics here, but have something wrong. I have it on another web site, but it is not sharing. Grrr

Not the best solution, but I need to get to work. There are pics in the photo section, here is a link. Sorry, I have read the great post on getting pics in, but have failed. Self worth Zip.Edited by - cmarkley on 23 Jul 2012 11:17:40 PM

I agree, it does look odd compared to the posters. May have to add another Item on my to find list. When I take the rear fender off I will be intersted to see if there are some extra holes, or if it was sent without a rear light, and this was the answer. They also added a piece of fire hose to the bottom of the front fender to keep it from throwing mud. I think they did some back trail riding with the bike based on what the wife said.
