Clutch plates

Post by strider »

Reassembling my '47 G80 primary drive after fitting the Alton Alternator, I compared a new plain clutch plate supplied from AOMC Parts, and niticed it was a lot thinner. 2mm thick instead of 3.5mm thick. Thats a difference of some 7.5mm total thickness of plain plates in the clutch.
I must admit that I've not seen 1/8th plain plates on a clutch befor, maybe 2mm is thick enough, but what difference will it make to spring adjustment?

Aha! previous owner obviously thought thicker must be better!
(He seemed to think the clutch center tab washer wasn't necessary either)
Thanks for the quick & helpful reply.

Did you mean the steel plates or friction plates ?
friction plates are circ 4mm thick
500 has one more plate than 350
