Hello, and help please!

Post by Orabanda »

Hi,
This is my first post.
I am in Perth, Western Australia, and recently acquired a 1951 G80S.

Can someone please advise where / how to purchase a spare parts book?

Also, I have problems with the front end; the bike has a BSA pre-unit forks and clamps fitted. Therefore I need a complete front end (triple clamps, forks, mudguard, wheel, but have no knowledge of what the correct components look like!

Any advice, drawings, pics, potential suppliers, much appreciated!!

Thanks,
Richard

Bruce Main Smith has a small company in the UK, he produces copies of the factory parts book, they are photostats and not particularly easy to use but at the risk of appearing patronising, [Im feeling vulnerable right now!]
you do learn your way around. google the name for his details. kind regardsEdited by - GOLDSTAR on 09 Sep 2012 09:24:59 AM

Welcome Richard,

The spares parts list and owners manual are available to download from the web for free. If you can't find them in Christian's Archives that Peter linked to above, you can get the spares list here:
http://www.matchlessclueless.com/resources/spares-lists/

The owners manual download (here) isn't working at the moment as the file size is too big, but send me a PM with your email address if you can't find it elsewhere and I'll email it across (assuming your email can take about 11Mb!).

Be aware that the pictures are not always 100% accurate in the spares list so the actual part may differ slightly from what is shown. And make sure that your bike is 1951 spec as the model years aren't necessary the same as the registration year. Also the above manuals and lists are UK spec so may require inverting 180 degrees if your bike is Oz spec.

But anyway, welcome to the forum and don't hesitate to post up a question if you get stuck.

Regards, James

Whoop's; the forum started without a kick!
Thank you everyone for your help; I forsee many more questions!

The rear wheel is full width, but the front is missing. Is the front full or half width brake?

Can a dual seat be fitted to this model?
Was it standard fitment?
Finally, what are the colour scheme options? I have enough black bikes.

Thanks,
Richard

G'day Orabanda, both wheels should be half width drum, full width didn't come out till '54 front,'55 rear. If you have the correct export model, the tank should be chrome with crimson top and side panel, lined in silver. Same for wheels (chrome), crimson center lined with silver, the rest is black!
The twin Matchy of same year had a dual seat, so I see no reason why it couldn't be fitted to the single, though a saddle was standard single fitment.

Paul.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the info! Do you know anyone who wants to swap a full width rear hub?

Where are you located?

G'dayt Richard, if you 'click' on the little icon to the left of the round gold 'M' above my name on the left, then click on the 'bio' icon that appears, you'll get the good oil!

Swap meets are your best bet, or have a gander in the back of the 'Just Bikes' magazine, you could also try Modak, in Melbourne.
