AJS & Matchless Owners Club

I just purchased a basket case 67 bike that purports to be a Matchless but I know both Norton and Matchless were badging virtually the same bike at this time. I only have the engine number now. it is G15CS 124188. The frame is supposed to match, but I have not been able to verify that yet. Does anyone know for sure what this is? I am also not totally sure it is a '67. It may be a '68.

Going by the engine number it is a Matchless G15CS. The Norton version has N15CS then the engine number. The engine and frame numbers should match. This is a later coil igntion model going by the 124 number.

A 1968 model, Although the G15CS was included in the 1968 model range, which commenced production Sept 1st 1967. It hardly got started, as it was discontinued in Oct 1967, so probably only a few machines were on the production line when the decission was made to discontinue the model.In fact, at the same time the G15 & G15CSR were discontinued. A lot of models were being discontinued at this time inc. P11. 124371 is given as the last G15 CS number but that number is also seen as being a N15CS. Frame and engine numbers should match. Considering what was going on at the time, who knows what 124188 may had ended up as, to use up work in progress before the closure. A G15CS or a N15CS or even something else. You can only take a guess, or for a small fee check with the clubs dating officer.
