ajs clutch nipple.jpg
Hi Cliff and all, Southern Island particularly The ring of Kerry is stunningly beautiful. Perfect for a mid range sports bike as the roads are virtually empty with no speed traps that I could see. The people there are curtius and friendly. Ah Life like it used to be. Any how well worth a visit if possible. Anyhow, I have tackled the broken clutch cable Thanks to a nice gift of cable from Cliff) then realised the nipple was somewhere in the bike chaincase. Here goes playing that wonderful game of hunt the "nipple" I did find it in the bottom of the chaincase along with some slightly shredded metal, mmm suspicions arising. :?Any how had new gasket ready, the previous owner had not bothered with gasket just used silicone. Seems to work for it, so mating surfaces must be ok. Swopped the cable over case back on clutch works fine but wait....... NOT happy about the clutch. Check again. Duplex chain tension slack, unserviceable now and why has the chain started eating into the inner case ribbing?? Mm I get hold of the clutch basket and feel for play. AAAGGGHHH :o :headbang: There is 1/4" play in the vertical and horizontal planes. No wonder selecting 1st was very sticky, no wonder there is fine shredded metal at the bottom of the chaincase. Consulting my ajs stormer parts list book I can see the likely culprit to be a very worn caged roller bearing. I hope it is just this as it is repairable with the engine in frame. Anyhow for now it will have to wait untill I can afford to buy the specialist tools needed to do the job. As I intend to keep the bike I may as well get myself kitted out.
Bye for now.

ajs date.jpg
Hi Cliff, Yep that is the same as my petrol tank as seen on the can am. I used to like there enduro bike in the day quite ballsy I thought although now as rare as hens teeth or at least the qualifier model is? I have solved my own ajs stormer mystery. Looking through the documents that came with the bike is an ajs dating letter from FB themselves as pictured. I reckon the bike "Earned" it M reg through the dating certificate and government "age related" plate or registration. It is quite straight forward as I did this myself on the Hodaka. Well Still broke from recent expenditure on hodaka (should be the last piece of the puzzle) Then save pennies for the way way wilder animal that is the STORMER.. :D

Hello Cliff, and all, Sorry been away a while. (not in prison.. Just busy) 1st thing most sorry upon hearing the news of Mr Brown Snrs passing. Although I did not meet or know the man he has made an impression on myself through reading his achievements here on this web site. I have got the tools from AJS. I know it took a while for them to send but they had to make the clutch compress tool again, plus moving, plus Fluffs illness at the time has obviously impacted. I spoke to Nick personally upon regarding my order - what a nice bloke he was to deal with. A chip off the old block I would say. I will post later to get up to date on things. Kind regards mick
