Well it does look right , engine seems to fit well.Heavy forks mmmm!
Don't suppose the frame number has been ahem, 'fiddled' with in the past and it is a 350, but some one was after cheaper insurance at the time.
All kinds of fiddles go on!

It all looks 350 to me, if you measure the down tube (between the castings) a 250 is 6 3/4", a 350 frame would about an inch longer.

Use 50 grade for both engine and gearbox. As stated before, keep gearbox level up to the bottom of inspection plate as the gears are high up in the box.

I found this: Silkolene Osmaston SAE 50 Classic/Vintage Oil - 5 Litres
Can you use a multi grade,say 20-50?

There has been a Zillion discussions on the oil subject including multi-grade with roller bearing cranks and modern detergent oils in engines with crap oil filters and in a nutshell and in my opinion(after reading most of them over about a year)... stick with the Classic straight grade oil. It's low detergent so it will not clean all the years of rubbish in your engine that was previously stuck in there and allow it to float around in the oil and pass through the virtually useless oil fiter but let all the bits fall to the bottom so they can stick to the magnetic plug or just stay there until such time the engine comes apart. Just change it and clean the filter about every 1000 miles and you should have no problems.

Looks just like mine as well. If it was a 250 frame wouldn't that head bracket need to be modified? all looks standard 350
