I brought a 500 twin cheap last year because one side smoked. It had recently been rebuilt, ie less than 200 miles. I was going to rebuild it when I found some bench space. So, should I let it smoke or pull it to bits.
I have lots of bits already!.

If you can still see behind you , run it, or as I have just though and posted on another topic, perhaps it's got a bust ring?

It seems sense to take the heads of to install the engine in the frames, so I will have a look then. I have seen some heavy handed people playing with piston rings, so nothing will surprise me.
Need some bench space first, maybe the summer when we are moaning about the drought!.

Re: G11 smoking on RH pot
Hi all,
there are many topics on lubrication problems on early twins.
Often the right side of the engine is full of oïl, and left side is under oiled = seizure on left piston, conrod breakage on drive side.
Also mettering plugs in the right head could be culprit ?

No, but I had no problems , apart from avoiding oncoming carsAlan, did you remember to turn yours around when you drove back to France?
Back to G11s etc, If they are smoking to an extent where you worry, only one answer close inspection after strip down!!

Re: G11 smoking on RH pot
Thanks for the helpful tips , all a great help in solving the problem
I was thinking along the lines of over oiling to the LHS
certainly with the rockers covers off , there was more oil on that side , although getting to both
Restrictors on all heads , perhaps a smaller restrictor on LHS might help . it would have been much easier if AMC had added adjustable oil way restrictors to the heads
