My 1960 model 14 has a grey Wipac rectifier S2642 approx 3" square bolted to rear mudguard and has 3 terminals. Can this be replaced with the Solid State Rectifier
part no 900601 from spares dept with 4 terminals.

Re: Model 14 Rectifier
Yes. To original rectifiers had three terminals and earthed through the fixing to the frame/mudguard/...... The 4th terminal on the solid state ones is for the earth.

Re: Model 14 Rectifier
So be careful with polarity which can be reversed on the solid state rectifier. From Ebay pictures it seems that the S2642 is for positive earth.

Re: Model 14 Rectifier
Someone cleverer than me will have to explain about polarity. I bought one on of the little square blocks for my ( +ive earth ) LE from the LeVelo Club's spares and fitted whatever it was they sent. It seemed to work so I never had to worry about such things. Fortunately.

If you are really clever Maplin do such things very cheap
Chemists do it with test tubes
