Mick, Thanks for putting the solution at end of thread.
I,ve just experienced exactly the same symptoms, came across this thread and ‘twas the fibre washer.

You can also easily get fibre washers in the wrong place. I have also had problems with fibre plug leads, so always use a wire lead. Suppressor should stop TV etc. interference. Hope you kept the old condenser that was working, Many times I have had new duds or new soon soon fail.

Change the condenser test the coil could be breaking down.
